Nigerian singer Mayorkun has cautioned emerging artistes against adopting a mysterious public image like that of his colleague Wizkid before establishing themselves in the music industry.
The singer advised upcoming musicians to focus on building their careers, increasing their visibility and connecting with fans rather than imitating the approach of established stars.
According to Mayorkun, trying to maintain a low public profile like Wizkid as a newcomer could make it difficult to gain recognition.
“Trying to maintain a mysterious image like Wizkid as a newcomer could cause you to fade into obscurity,” he said.
He suggested that emerging artistes should first build a solid fan base and establish their presence in the industry before considering a similar approach.
Wizkid, one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats stars, is known for keeping much of his personal life private and making relatively limited public appearances outside music-related activities.
